Fire prevention
Usually, in wind turbines the active firefighting is only possible in the area of the tower base. Without intervention options in the event of a fire in the nacelle area, the use of a fire protection system makes sense, particularly because of the high degree of installation in the nacelle. In this case, a distinction is made between detection, reporting and extinguishing systems.
We believe that the most effective way to protect equipment assets and prevent fire damage is through automatic, stationary fire extinguishing systems. These systems should provide both room and facility protection and be designed either as CO2 high pressure or fine spray water extinguishing systems [1]. We are currently testing different systems for their effectiveness in the respective areas and are expected to deliver results in the second quarter of 2018.
